Description

Yamaha's premier 3-way bookshelf speaker system sets a new standard in performance and quality by which all other speakers should be judged. The newly developed diaphragms have an acoustic speed comparable to that of beryllium, while the newly developed RS (Resonance Suppression) chambers suppress unwanted resonance in the middle and high ranges. The speakers come with stands made specifically for the NS-5000.

Newly developed RS (Resonance Suppression) chambers suppress unwanted resonance in the middle and high ranges

Newly developed RS chambers (patent pending) are placed on the back of the tweeter and midrange speakers, which suppress unnecessary tube resonance that is created behind the diaphragm. Two specially shaped tubes installed according to our own acoustic analysis cancel tube resonance. These RS chambers achieve higher-resolution sound reproduction by eliminating the need for large amounts of sound-absorbing material inside the enclosure that tends to smooth the frequency response of each speaker unit and can reduce subtle nuances of sound.

30 cm (12”) 3-way bookcase design draws on the tradition of the legendary NS-1000M
As a result of extensive research into various cabinet designs during the development of the NS-5000, we chose the bookshelf design as a successor to the continuing legacy of the NS-1000M (released in 1974), the pinnacle of Yamaha monitor speakers. This bass-reflex enclosure with an internal volume of 65 liters — the smallest possible size for a 3-way configuration of 30 cm (12 inches) — is solidly assembled with a 3-way miter joint construction technique and other traditional construction methods. Reinforcement cross-sections within the case, based on FEM analysis, suppress "box ringing" caused by delayed vibrations from the six surfaces of the case. In addition, the twisted flare port prevents port noise (wind noise produced at each end of the bass reflex port) inherent in bass reflex design.

Network with dividing frequency

All drivers in the NS-5000 are connected in positive phase with one wire to provide a natural, comfortable listening experience. Its frequency division network components are mounted on a double-sided printed circuit board with extra-thick 140μ thick copper traces; the shorter signal path on the printed circuit board minimizes the loss of audio data during transmission. Moreover, to reduce signal loss, we used only the highest quality hand-picked parts for the network, such as the MCap SUPREME EVO audio capacitor, manufactured by Mundorf of Germany and known as the pinnacle of audio utilization capacitors, Mundorf's MResist SUPREME attenuator and woofer coil which weighs as much as 1.6 kg (3.52 lbs).
